Kenyatta wins Kenya's presidential race, figures show

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 09 Maret 2013 | 08.10

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Uhuru Kenyatta, the son of Kenya's founding president, won the presidential election with a slim margin of 50.03 percent of votes cast, just enough to avoid a run-off, provisional figures by the election commission showed on Saturday.

Kenyatta, who faces international charges of crimes against humanity, secured the victory over his main rival, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who secured 43.28 percent of the vote.

The first round win, which must be officially confirmed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, means Kenyans who waited five days for the result of the vote will not face a run-off that would have prolonged the uncertainty.

To secure an outright win, a candidate needed more than 50 percent of the votes.

Kenyatta achieved that by a margin of just 4,100 votes. About 12.3 million votes were cast. Such a narrow win will almost certainly prompt legal challenges from Odinga's camp, which complained about the election process throughout.

Kenyatta, the deputy prime minister, secured 6,173,433 votes out of a total of 12,338,667 ballots cast, the provisional figures showed, indicating a margin of 50.03 percent.

Western donors had warned before the vote that diplomatic ties would be complicated with a win by Kenyatta who, along with his running mate William Ruto, is facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court in The Hague related to post-election violence five years ago.

Kenyans hoped this vote would restore their nation's reputation as one of Africa's most stable democracies after the tribal slaughter that followed the disputed 2007 vote that Odinga said Mwai Kibaki stole from him.

The test will be whether any challenges to the outcome are worked out in the courts of the newly reformed judiciary, and do not spill over into the streets, as they did in 2007.

Batman mask, Superman cape donated to Smithsonian by Warner Bros

REUTERS - Batman's mask, Superman's cape and Catwoman's suit will be taking up permanent residence at the Smithsonian museum after being donated by Warner Bros. Pictures, the U.S. national museum said on Friday.

The iconic Batman mask and cowl worn by George Clooney in the 1997 "Batman & Robin" film was one of more than 30 movie items presented by Warner Bros. Chairman Barry Meyer to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

The movie items donated were from 13 films by the Hollywood studio between 1942 and 2005.

Late actor Christopher Reeve's Superman suit from 1983's "Superman III," Halle Berry's 2004 "Catwoman" costume and props from 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" were among some of the memorabilia donated to the museum.

"Films are an integral part of this culture and of our daily lives, shaping how we perceive ourselves as Americans," the museum's director, John Gray, said in a statement. "The legacy of Warner Bros. is an important part of American history and these objects help us to tell that story."

The items will be part of the Smithsonian's 2013 Classic Film Festival, a three-day film retrospective starting Friday.

Actress Demi Moore asks for alimony from Ashton Kutcher

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 08 Maret 2013 | 08.10

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Demi Moore is seeking alimony from estranged husband Ashton Kutcher's, according to divorce documents filed in a Los Angeles court on Thursday.

Kutcher, the star of CBS television comedy "Two and a Half Men," filed for divorce from the "G.I. Jane" actress in December 2012 after more than a year of separation.

Requesting financial support from Kutcher, 35, is an unusual move for Moore, 50, who was one of the top female earners in Hollywood during the 1990s. Her court filing did not specify an amount sought.

Kutcher and Moore both cited irreconcilable differences in their divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. In Kutcher's filing, the actor said he would not seek spousal support but would not deny support to Moore.

Forbes magazine has estimated Kutcher earned $24 million from May 2011 to May 2012, making him the highest-paid TV actor.

Representatives for Moore and Kutcher did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Moore began dating Kutcher a few years after her split from actor-husband Bruce Willis, when Kutcher was a young star on the TV sitcom "That '70s Show."

Their relationship became tabloid fodder due to their 16-year age gap, and the couple married in September 2005 in Los Angeles.

Moore and Kutcher separated in November 2011 following six years of marriage, after a San Diego woman said she had a brief affair with Kutcher.

Kutcher is currently dating his former "That '70s Show" cast-mate Mila Kunis.

Pop singer Justin Bieber collapses during London performance

REUTERS - Canadian teen pop star Justin Bieber collapsed on stage from shortness of breath during a performance in London on Thursday, representatives for the singer said.

"(Justin's) heading to the doctor now," Bieber's spokeswoman Melissa Victor told Reuters at midnight local time. "He fainted and took a 20-minute reprieve and was given oxygen."

Bieber, 19, returned to the stage after the break to finish the show, and his representatives said he was OK.

"Justin got very light of breath, the whole show he has been complaining," Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, told the crowd in several amateur videos posted on the Internet. "He's backstage with the EMTs and the doctor."

Bieber's spokeswoman told Reuters that the "Boyfriend" singer ignored doctors orders and returned to the O2 Arena stage to finish the performance.

The Canadian singer had not been suffering from any health issues prior to the show, the spokeswoman added.

Fans had already started circulating the hashtag "#justintakeabreak" on Twitter after news of his collapse spread on the social network.

Bieber was performing for the third out of four nights at London's O2 Arena as part of the European leg of his sold-out "Believe" world tour.

Long Island man faces jail for laughing too loudly in own home

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 07 Maret 2013 | 08.10

By Jonathan Allen

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A man from Long Island, New York, is facing up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine after a neighbor complained to police he was laughing too loudly, his lawyer said on Wednesday.

Police issued Robert Schiavelli, 41, two tickets for disturbing the peace for laughing out the window of his home in Rockville Centre on Long Island at about 6 p.m. on February 12 and February 13, his lawyer said.

Schiavelli said the neighbor regularly mocks his disability, and the best response to those taunts is laughter.

"He just ridicules me all the time and the only thing I can come up with is laughing," Schiavelli said in a telephone interview.

His lawyer, Andrew Campanelli, said his client has frequent seizures as a result of neurological impairments but denied his laugh is loud or boisterous.

"He's like a big teddy bear, he's got a low laugh," Campanelli said.

Schiavelli lives with his mother, Suzanne Schiavelli, who said in an interview on Wednesday that he had a "fairly loud" laugh.

"I think it's infectious. It's cute," she said. "When my husband died, we said to ourselves, 'We're going to make sure to laugh every day and make the most of life.'"

Daniel O'Hanion, the neighbor who made the complaint, could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

O'Hanion and Schiavelli live in adjacent private homes about 20 feet apart, separated by two driveways.

The Rockville Centre Police Department said they issued the summonses after receiving complaints about an ongoing pattern of noisemaking.

"On two occasions, police actually observed this individual creating a disturbance directed at neighbors and in violation of local law," police said in a statement.

Schiavelli's mother said O'Hanion often calls her son a "retard," parodies his speech and mocks his walk. Relations worsened when they had builders in to renovate their house over O'Hanion's objections, she said.

Campanelli said that a judge declined a motion to dismiss the case at a village court hearing on Tuesday. (Editing by Barbara Goldberg and Phil Berlowitz)

U.N. set to crack down on North Korea financing, illicit cargo

By Louis Charbonneau

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - In response to North Korea's third nuclear test, the U.N. Security Council is set to tighten financial restrictions on North Korea and crack down on Pyongyang's attempts to ship and receive banned cargo in violation of existing sanctions.

The measures are included in a draft sanctions resolution which the United States delivered to the council on Tuesday. The nine-page text was the product of three weeks of negotiations between the United States and China in response to North Korean's third nuclear test on February 12.

The 15-nation council plans to put it to a vote on Thursday at 10 a.m. EST (1500 GMT), Russian U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, council president for March, said on Wednesday.

The resolution, which council diplomats say is intended to bring the North Korea sanctions regime more in line with tough U.N. measures in place against Iran, would have the council "expressing the gravest concern at the nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea)."

But the success of the new measures, council diplomats say, will depend to a large extent on the willingness of North Korea's ally China to enforce them.

Council diplomats say the U.N. sanctions regime against Iran over its nuclear program, which Western powers and their allies say is intended for making weapons but Tehran says is peaceful, has been more effective than the restrictions on Pyongyang. That, they say, is why they used the Iran measures as a model.

The U.S.-drafted North Korea resolution, if adopted, would impose an obligation on the United Nations' 193 member states to block any financial services or monetary transfers that "could contribute to the DPRK's nuclear or ballistic missile programs."

It specifically mentions "bulk cash" transfers, which council diplomats say is one of Pyongyang's preferred methods of moving cash - often in briefcases carried by its diplomats.

The resolution would also impose a binding obligation on countries to "not provide public financial support for trade with the DPRK" if it could in any way support North Korea's nuclear or missile work.

The new resolution would further make inspections of suspicious land, sea or air cargo - including luxury goods intended for the North Korean elite - mandatory. Until now, such inspections have been voluntary.

Similar measures were included in resolution 1929, the council's last sanctions resolution against Iran. Western diplomats say those measures have proven to be surprisingly effective in complicating Iran's efforts to skirt sanctions and raise funds for its nuclear and missile programs.

U.N. BLACKLIST

Pyongyang was hit with U.N. sanctions for its 2006 and 2009 nuclear tests, measures that were subsequently tightened and expanded after several rocket launches. In addition to the luxury goods ban, there is an arms embargo on North Korea, and it is forbidden from trading in nuclear and missile technology.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said on Tuesday that the new draft resolution "builds up, strengthens and significantly expands the scope of the strong U.N. sanctions already in place" on North Korea.

She said the new sanctions would target "the illicit activities of North Korean diplomatic personnel, North Korean banking relationships, (and) illicit transfers of bulk cash."

The resolution also calls for asset freezes and travel bans on the chief representative of the Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation (KOMID), North Korea's main arms dealer which has been under U.N. sanctions since 2009, and his deputy.

Also to be blacklisted is an official at Tanchon Commercial Bank. Tanchon was added to the U.N. blacklist in 2009 as the main North Korean financier for Pyongyang's arms trade.

Two North Korean entities will also be blacklisted - the Second Academy of Natural Sciences and the Korea Complex Equipment Import Corporation, a subsidiary of Korea Ryonbong General Corporation. Both are linked to North Korea's military, the draft resolution says.

The resolution specifies some of the luxury items North Korea is not allowed to import, such as yachts, racing cars, luxury automobiles and certain types of jewelry. This is intended to repair a loophole which allowed countries to decide for themselves what constitutes a luxury good.

Provisions of the new resolution encourage states to expel North Korean diplomats engaging in illicit activity on their territories.

Leading proxy firms seek ouster of HP chairman, directors

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 06 Maret 2013 | 08.10

By Poornima Gupta

REUTERS - Two leading proxy advisers on Tuesday urged Hewlett-Packard Co shareholders to oust several directors for their role in the ill-fated 2011 acquisition of British software company Autonomy, with No. 1 proxy firm ISS issuing a rare call to reject Chairman Ray Lane.

ISS, closely followed by investors seeking guidance on controversial issues, has suggested voting against Lane, a managing partner at high-powered Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. They also gave fellow board members John Hammergren and G. Kennedy Thompson the thumbs-down.

The recommendation against Lane marked one of the few "special cases" in which ISS has advised shareholders against re-electing the chairman of the board.

In 2012, it recommended against Wal-Mart Stores Inc Chairman Robson Walton and other directors for failing to fully investigate allegations of widespread bribery by company officials in Mexico.

And in 2009, ISS advised shareholders to vote against re-electing Bank of America Chairman Ken Lewis, following its costly acquisition of Merrill Lynch.

"It doesn't happen that often," said Charles Elson, a University of Delaware professor specializing in corporate governance. But Elson said the recommendations at HP seem to reflect specific problems, such as the Autonomy deal, rather than a fundamental shift in approach by the firm.

Also on Tuesday, Glass Lewis recommended shareholders vote to remove four directors - including venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and Rajiv Gupta, along with Hammergren and Thompson.

Both firms blamed the directors for inadequate due diligence relating to the acquisition of Autonomy. HP, which acquired the British firm for $11.1 billion, took a massive writedown on its value last year and accused former Autonomy executives, including then-Chief Executive Mike Lynch, of accounting fraud.

Lynch has denied the allegations. A HP spokesman said the "board fully supports the election of each of the director nominees named in the proxy statement."

The recommendations, which could help sway undecided shareholders ahead of HP's annual meeting on March 20 in Mountain View, California, came days after a strongly worded declaration from union pension adviser and shareholder CtW Investment Group.

CtW also urged shareholders to reject board members Hammergren and Thompson, though CtW and Glass Lewis are not opposing Lane's re-election.

Despite the recommendation to vote against the directors, it is fairly rare for directors to not get elected, said David Eaton, vice president of research at Glass Lewis.

"This raises some issues for HP that they would want to get ahead of," Eaton said, adding that it is fairly common for companies to reach out to shareholders in such cases to get a sense of how they would be voting.

'OVERSIGHT FAILURE'

Glass Lewis had also recommended against the re-election of Andreessen, Gupta, Hammergren and Thompson last year for their role in the hiring of former HP CEO Leo Apotheker. Now, both proxy firms say directors should be held accountable for Autonomy - a deal many on Wall Street say was sharply over-priced and has so far borne little fruit for HP's software division. Current CEO Meg Whitman also voted for the deal, but was not mentioned in Tuesday's filings.

"While developments surrounding the 2011 Autonomy deal may continue in the coming months, it is clear that the due diligence process that occurred at that time was not robust," ISS said in a report.

It said Lane, Hammergren and Thompson "bear the most responsibility for a very costly oversight failure."

Thompson was formerly chairman and CEO of Wachovia Corp, the North Carolina bank bought by Wells Fargo & Co in 2008.

Hammergren is chairman and CEO of U.S. drug wholesaler McKesson Corp . Thompson chairs the HP board's audit committee, while Hammergren chairs its finance and investment committee, according to HP's proxy.

On Tuesday, CtW welcomed ISS' recommendation, saying it would help finish an overhaul of the board that had begun a year or two ago, after a series of missteps starting with a wiretapping scandal in which it gave the go-ahead to monitor journalists' conversations, up to the ouster of former CEO Mark Hurd over his relationship with a female contractor.

"The ISS recommendation adds enormous weight to the case for removing long-tenured Hewlett-Packard directors and finish the Board renewal," said Dieter Waizenegger, recently appointed executive director of CtW.

"Despite having unanimously approved the Autonomy deal, the board continues to try to sweep the debacle under the rug by blaming the mess on a previous CEO it appointed. The Board must hold itself accountable, especially those directors who most clearly failed investors."

HP shares rose 2 percent to finish at $20.37 as the Dow Jones Industrial Index <.DJI> surged to a new high.

StanChart set for record $7 bln profit despite Iran fine

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 05 Maret 2013 | 08.10

LONDON (Reuters) - Standard Chartered is set to report its 10th successive record annual profit on Tuesday after strong growth in its core Asian markets offset a big fine for breaking sanctions on Iran.

A $667 million fine from U.S. authorities is likely to have wiped out much of the London-based bank's growth last year, but profits should still rise 4 percent to $7 billion, according to the average forecast of 16 analysts polled by Reuters.

In a rare blip after a decade of buoyant growth and few problems, Standard Chartered was last year hit by a U.S. fine for moving millions of dollars through the American banking system on behalf of customers in Iran and three other sanctioned countries.

Standard Chartered has also voiced concern about an "avalanche" of extra regulation, particularly stricter liquidity rules being imposed by its home UK regulator.

Britain is imposing tougher capital and liquidity rules and a tax on bank assets that could land Standard Chartered with a bill of more than $320 million this year, reviving speculation it could look to move its headquarters from London to Asia.

An EU plan to cap bonuses at no more than twice an employee's salary could also hamper the bank's pay structure.

Standard Chartered <2888.HK> has ridden Asia's rise through much of the last decade, allowing it to continue hiring and increasing earnings when much of the industry is shrinking.

The bank, led by former McKinsey consultant Peter Sands for more than six years, is expected to have added about 2,000 staff in 2012 and has said it could expand by a similar amount this year, although it plans to keep cost increase below its rise in income.

The bank's annual results are expected to show strong growth in Malaysia, China and Indonesia and mirror its rival HSBC with buoyant earnings in its biggest market, Hong Kong.

Standard Chartered's business in India, which accounts for about 10 percent of profits, is expected to show a drop in income, and there remain risks that revenues there will stay sluggish this year, analysts said.

Mexico's wealth gap in spotlight as Slim and miners get richer

By Gabriel Stargardter

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Two Mexican mining magnates have moved up Forbes' annual list of the world's richest, headed once again by compatriot Carlos Slim, underscoring the challenge the new government faces to narrow the wealth gap and pull millions out of poverty.

Slim's fortune - from an empire that stretches from telecoms to retail, to mining and banking - rose nearly 6 percent to $73 billion in 2012. The tycoon topped the list for the fourth year in a row, ahead of Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

The wealth of Alberto Bailleres, the second-placed Mexican on the 2013 list at No. 32 and chairman of mining group Industrias Penoles , grew 10.3 percent to $18.2 billion.

And fellow miner and low-profile head of Grupo Mexico German Larrea, 59, who came in at No. 40, added 17.6 percent to his fortune to reach $16.7 billion.

Bailleres was No. 38 on Forbes' list last year, and Larrea No. 48.

Around half of Mexico's 115 million people live in poverty. More than 12 million Mexicans joined the ranks of the poor between 2006-2010, according to government data. A study published in 2012 by the International Labor Organization put the average Mexican salary at $609 a month.

Inspired by the anti-poverty successes of former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, new President Enrique Pena Nieto campaigned on a pledge to lift 15 million Mexicans out of poverty.

Only Chile is more unequal than Mexico, according to data from the 34-country Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

"This is a very clear indicator of the main problems in Mexico," said columnist and historian Lorenzo Meyer. "It's not logical that a country with half its population living in poverty should also be home to the world's richest man."

Mexico's big loser on the Forbes list this year was Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the head of retailer Grupo Elektra , who in 2011 enjoyed the largest increase in wealth, when he added $9.2 billion to his net worth.

Salinas, 57, dropped to No. 111 on the list from No. 37 a year earlier, and now has $9.9 billion to his name, Forbes said. Elektra's share price has fallen 54 percent since March last year as a derivatives instrument known as an equity swap worked against the company, battering its stock.

TAXES AND ROYALTIES?

The miners' success comes as the Mexican government and its main rivals have agreed in principle to discuss imposing additional levies on mining companies, which are low compared to those in regional competitors like Peru and Chile.

While Mexico's oil sector is in state hands and prohibits foreign ownership of energy reserves, the mining sector is wide open. Mexico does not charge mining companies royalties, only taxing them on profits.

"It could be a combination of land taxes and royalties, or just royalties," Economy Minister Idelfonso Guajardo said recently. "I think the law needs to be an instrument to give clear guidelines and not send mixed messages to investors hoping to invest in this sector."

Any new mining tax could help lighten the burden on state oil monopoly Pemex, which funds one third of the federal budget, analysts say.

While still at the top of the list, 73-year-old Slim has taken a hit on recent investments in Europe, like a nearly 30-percent stake in Dutch telecom KPN and a similar stock purchase in Telekom Austria .

KPN has lost more than half its value since Slim moved in and Telekom Austria has also floundered.

Meanwhile, after weaker-than-expected results, shares in telecom giant America Movil have fallen more than 10 percent since the start of 2013 on uncertainty over how planned overhauls of the telecoms industry and competition laws will affect Slim's empire.

"America Movil generates a disgusting amount of cash," said Gerardo Roman, head of stock trading at Mexico City's Actinver brokerage. "Nowadays, who invests in Europe? But in six or seven years, we're going to say, 'What an investment, he nailed it.'"

One notable omission from the list was Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, whom Forbes had included for the last four years.

"The increased pressure put on the drug trade by the Mexican drug war suggest that he has to spend more of his money on security and bribes to protect his family, meaning his annual take of the world's massive cocaine trade ... is getting thinner and thinner," Forbes said on its Web site.

Forbes included 12 other Mexicans, from No. 179 to No. 1,107, on the list.

Fires erupted in the apartment blocks and footage on Fires erupted in the apartment blocks and footage on television showed huge flames leaping into the night sky. Local residents used car headlights to help rescuers who searched for survivors in the rubble of apartments and shops destroyed by the blasts. Many people complained that rescue teams and the fire service took an inordinately long time in reaching the site of the blasts. Heavy machinery reached the spot almost two hours after the attack and residents rushed the injured to hospital in private vehicles and auto-rickshaws. Local media reports said security forces and senior officials were engaged in providing security for the engagement ceremony of a senior aide of the Sindh Chief Minister and this hindered rescue operations. Many top leaders of the Pakistan People's Party, including Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, were in Karachi to attend the engagement. The banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi has claimed a string of recent attacks on Shias in other parts of Pakistan, including the southwestern city of Quetta. Abbas Town has been the target of terrorist attacks in the past too. On November 18, three persons were killed and more than 20 injured when a bomb went off outside an imambargah in the area. Last month, 91 people were killed in a bomb attack on a Shia area in the southwestern city of Quetta. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Ashraf condemned the blasts. Ashraf ordered an inquiry into the incident and said those "targeting innocent civilians are serving the interests of anti-state and anti-social elements". The premier cancelled his official engagements and began overseeing rescue and relief operations. The Sindh government announced a day of mourning tomorrow while Shia groups called for a shutdown. Officials said all educational institutions in Karachi would be closed tomorrow while traders' associations called for markets to remain shut to protest the attack. PTI RHL ZH

Tiger Woods undoes good work with third even-par round

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 03 Maret 2013 | 08.10

By Simon Evans

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida (Reuters) - Tiger Woods carded his third even-par round of 70 at the Honda Classic on Saturday as he undid a promising front round with a double bogey on the 17th.

Woods was nine strokes adrift of the overnight leader Luke Guthrie and was left frustrated at a missed opportunity to close the gap.

"I thought realistically, five or six under-par would be a good score and I thought if I posted that I would be within six or seven shots of the lead tomorrow. I didn't do it and consequently I am nine back," he told reporters.

The 14-times major winner got off to a quick start, with birdies at the first and third holes and then the par-four eighth.

But a bogey on the 10th, where he found the greenside bunker, disrupted his momentum before he got in trouble on the penultimate hole.

On the par-three 17th, part of the 'Bear Trap' series of holes, Woods found the watery banking and his ball was declared lost, forcing him to re-tee and he then two-putted for a double.

The former world number one got in difficulty on the par-five final hole too. His second shot crashed into the stands and after taking a drop he found a back green bunker.

Smart work out of the sand enabled Woods to make par but he was nonetheless disappointed not to have made more progress.

"I was playing really solidly all day. I caught a bad mudball on 10 and hit a slice hook made bogey. On 18 hit another bad one, hook-slice.

"On 17, just stuck it in the ground a little bit, caught the wind and rode it over there and ended up making double," he said.

Woods said his current form wasn't vastly inferior to that he showed in winning the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in late January.

"It's not that far off. I feel I am just probably not quite driving it as well - I am driving it long but not quite as well," he said.

"My iron game is pretty good and my short game is way better than it was at Torrey. I feel very comfortable with my putting and I just need to obviously play a little more and attack from there, everything else is pretty good," he said.

Four-way tie lights up Tshwane Open third round

PRETORIA (Reuters) - A four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard has set up a thrilling final round of South Africa's Tshwane Open.

South Africans Darren Fichardt, Charl Coetzee and Dawie van der Walt will start the fourth round level on 16-under-par with Chilean Mark Tullo after an extended Saturday that saw 53 players complete their second round in the early morning.

There was another rain interruption that kept the players off the Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate course at Centurion for two hours, before the final threesome completed their third rounds in fading light.

Fichardt birdied the last three holes for an eight-under-par 64 to take his share of the lead. It is the best round of the championship so far as the 37-year-old seeks back-to-back wins in South Africa following his victory in the Africa Open in East London a fortnight ago.

Tullo and Van der Walt both carded 67s as they take aim at a first ever European Tour victory.

Tullo has yet to drop a shot in the championship and carded another five birdies on Saturday, including on the last to gain a share of the lead.

Van der Walt is also yet to drop a shot and once again had a strong back nine to keep up with the leaders. Eleven of his 16 birdies have come on the way back to the clubhouse.

Coetzee is playing in his fifth event on tour and shot a 68, but two bogies on the back nine denied him the outright lead.

Having turned in 35, he had an eventful final nine holes that included five birdies to go with those two dropped shots.

One shot off the lead is South African Louis de Jager, who has now carded consecutive rounds of 65 after an opening day 71.

American Peter Uihlein goes into Sunday on 14-under-par, while one shot further back is Englishman David Howell.

Spanish veteran Jose Maria Olazabal carded two double-bogies on his was to a disappointing 74 that leaves him at two-over-par for the tournament and in tied-73rd place.
